Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine

Awards

Our department is proud to recognize all forms of excellence, including in areas of research, clinical skills, teaching, service, and mentorship.

Award Recipients

Our department has a great tradition of recognizing the amazing folks within our department, by a process of peer nominations, and selection by a diverse and widely representative group of individuals of the selections committee.

This year we had many people nominated for our departmental awards, some receiving multiple nominations from several individuals! We are so proud to have so many very deserving and outstanding individuals in our department.

We are also incredibly proud to have many Hospital level hospital award recipients.

Each year, we recognize 5 faculty members and nurse anesthetists for their outstanding contributions to the department with our Excellence in Anesthesia awards. We are fortunate to be filled with a department of committed individuals who consistently go above and beyond. We also recognize that many of our unsung heroes are often quiet in their indispensable contributions, and we would like to invite your nominations of faculty and CRNAs who exemplify an unwavering dedication to the department, their colleagues, and the community.

Every year the department offers an award in the memory of Dr. Marina Bizzarri-Schmid, one of our former trainees and faculty.  Recipients  embody the concept of “compassionate care” from our staff—all clinicians (staff, fellows, residents, CRNAs, SRNAs) are eligible for consideration.

“Those who knew her described Marina as demanding, quirky, meticulous, yet could make a resident feel like they were God’s gift to the practice of medicine.  Her patients woke up from anesthesia into a cocoon of warmth and love and felt like they were the only patient on the planet at that moment.”
