Michael Fitzsimons, MD

Michael Fitzsimons, MD is the Vice Chair for Faculty Development for the MGB Department of Anesthesia. He completed his residency, chief residency, and fellowships in cardiac anesthesia and critical care medicine at Mass General. He has served in various leadership roles in the Department of Anesthesia, Critical Care, and Pain Medicine including the director of the Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesia Fellowship, the associate director of the Residency Program for Clinical Base Year Education, the chairperson for the Clinical Competency Committee, and the director of Substance Use Disorders (SUD) Prevention.
Dr. Fitzsimons serves as chairperson for the American Society of Anesthesiologists SUD Prevention Advisory Group and the Working Group on Physician Mental Health and Suicide Prevention. His academic interests include drug testing, disabilities among physicians, suicide prevention, and medical education. Dr. Fitzsimons is a veteran of the United States Army.
Kim Katz, MSW
Program Coordinator for Academic Promotions

Kim Katz, MSW, is the Faculty Development Promotions Program Manager in our Department. Kim attended the University of Michigan and then went on to pursue a Master’s Degree at Simmons School of Social Work. Kim worked at Dana Farber Cancer Institute for a few years and then moved to New York City and worked at Weill Cornell Medical School in their Office of Faculty Affairs before moving back to Boston. Since 2021, Kim continues to manage all the administrative details and logistics related to the Harvard Medical School appointment and promotions process within our department. Kim works collaboratively with the Vice Chair and Associate Vice Chair for Faculty Development and all faculty actively seeking an appointment and/or promotion at the Assistant, Associate and Professorial level. Additionally, Kim organizes department-wide wellness events and is always happy to answer any questions about the appointment/promotions process.
Adam Greenberg, MEd
Project Manager of Faculty Development

Adam Greenberg is the Project Manager for Faculty Development in the Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative, and Pain Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Adam attended UMass Amherst for his bachelor’s degree and then proceeded to Bridgewater State University to earn a master’s degree in education. He then began a 5-year career as an elementary school teacher where he taught Science, Technology, Engineering and Math to students in grades K-5. He then pivoted careers to healthcare and worked at Dana Farber Cancer Institute as a New Patient Coordinator in several departments learning the “ins and outs” of the healthcare field. He then made the transition to Brigham and Women’s Hospital department of Anesthesia, where he is currently a project manager for Faculty Development. Alongside with the Vice Chair and Departmental Leadership, Adam drives projects and helps design initiatives to increase faculty job satisfaction and career fulfillment. He is keenly focused on process improvement and works on a departmental level to optimize processes, minimize delays and provide scaffolded support for all stakeholder in the changed processes.

Lawrence C. Tsen, MD
Faculty Development & Academic Promotions Committee Chair

Lawrence C. Tsen, MD is an Associate Professor in Anaesthesia, Harvard Medical School and Director of Anesthesia for the Center for Reproductive Medicine, in the Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative, and Pain Medicine, Brigham & Women’s Hospital (BWH).
Dr. Tsen’s research focuses on the assessment of novel agents and techniques for labor analgesia, the optimization of maternal and fetal physiology during the peripartum period, and professionalism and wellness for healthcare providers. He has authored over 180 peer reviewed articles and textbook chapters and is the recipient of several research and teaching awards. He serves as the Director of the BWH Human Research Office/ MassGeneralBrigham (MGB) Institutional Review Board and as a member of several global Research Grant Review Boards.
Dr. Tsen has served as President for the Society for Obstetric Anesthesia and Perinatology and Editor in Chief for the International Journal of Obstetric Anesthesia. He currently serves as Editor for Chestnut’s Obstetric Anesthesia: Principles and Practices and is on the editorial boards of a number of anesthesia journals.

Cathleen McKeating, MD

Cathleen McKeating grew up in the Boston area. She completed her undergraduate education at Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH. She attended medical school at George Washington University in Washington, DC. She returned to Boston in 2016 when she matched at BWH for her residency training in Anesthesia. She graduated in 2020 and has been a member of our faculty since then. Dr. McKeating serves as the Director of Departmental Engagement and the Chair of the MassBrigham Anesthesia Social Club (MASC). In these roles, she organizes social events and other initiatives to build community and create a culture of well-being among members of the department.
